Hi Everyone, I am lucky enough to be attending Glasto this year, there are 12 of us going so should be fun. I have been to festivals before (Leeds, Download) How does Glasto differ, obviously it is huge and so much to do, however is it much more laid back than other festivals, I like the fact you can take you own drink anywhere once your in the festival, any tips or advise on what I shpuld maybe take etc would be great. I am looking to get a 4 man ten to share with my partner, so we will have plenty of room etc.

Where has Hip Hop gone?

(2)
(1)

Into Dr Dres wallet

(4)
(1)

Hip Hop is dead. Along with some other genres we grew up with. They have all been replaced/swallowed up by pop.

Anyone can make it, and they all sound the same.

It became dance hop sadly. Rip

It now lives on YouTube and there are some good names on there. My list of good artists are:
XV (my personal favourite)
Angel Haze (raw but very talented)
J. Cole (another Jay-Z protege)
Kendrick Lamar (another Dre protege)
Scouse_Pride

(3)
(0)

Saigon
Grafh
Jeezy
Asap Rocky

J cole is the best hip hop artist out there at the moment, his music tells stories. I've seen him live a few times just as a support act and he was better than the main acts IMO.

It was obvious to everybody that Bruno Mars (dont like him) latest single sounds just like The Police but can't believe that so called "experts" are likening it to Roxanne when it just doesn't sound like that song. For me it sounds much more like Spirits In The Material World.
Thoughts?

Chris in Tamworth

I don't think his new single sounds like The Police I think it's a rip off of the police

You would be best to get a midi pickup, you can then use it to trigger samples. Yamaha make the best quality ones but most will do a decent enough job when recording. If you are on a more limited budget you can buy synth pedals and pitch shifters which will give you a lot of usable sounds. For dance music its about changing the sound of your guitar as much as possible imo, so most pedals will change the sound in different ways so its up to you what you think works!
Good luck!

dont see you as a rap lover ed lol

gotta say eminem is the only rapper worth listening too talks about his life not about guns, drugs, money, 26 inch wheels and hoes

curt {Ed001's Note - there are a lot more than just him doing that, it is just most of them are not able to sell and so are underground artists. Even in this country there are some decent artists, remember Hijack? Sindecut? Mark and Blade?
This is a classic Hijack cut from 1988: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITQjao5Lzxw
Anyone remember Silver Bullet's 20 Seconds to Comply? That is a truly great song!}

(0)
(0)

How about tinie tempah and b.o.b

(0)
(0)

^^^^^ good shout wouldnt really class them as rap as such though

ed to be honest mate i werent even alive in 1988 lol i was just a thought

curt {Ed001's Note - I was still at school then, I really don't know why they call those the best days of your life though!}

(0)
(0)

Haha you cant deny if you could be 15/16 again and re do your last year of school you would though or atleast go back to 18 and the first time you started going clubbin oh good times

curt {Ed001's Note - I wouldn't, and I was clubbing long before 18 mate!}

(0)
(0)

How about a hip hop group called Encore. They seem pretty decent. Their song fun last night is epic.

(0)
(0)

You should check out a rapper called Saigon, has tried to break through mainstream with couple albums but his content isn't wanted on the radio/labels i.e doesnt talk about cars, money, bling etc. Have a listen to 'the colour purple', 'bring me down' and 'together (dear black america)' to name a few. This guy is the best in the industry right now

(1)
(0)

Sounds a genuine artist.

ed i would recommend nas' latest album life is good (--- real rap. {Ed001's Note - Nas can be very hit and miss, I think, some of his stuff is brilliant, but then he ruins it by rapping about how much money he has etc. He is better than that, when he shows it, he is one of the best rappers in the world.}

(0)
(0)

I know what you mean ed illamatic eyy? say no more...in my opinion the best rapper alive.

(1)
(0)

No, I recommend tinie tempah.

(2)

I recommend Giggs

Ed001 I see your a old school rap lover. I too like the likes of gangstarr, ice cube, mob deep, souls of mischief, big L etc. Massive biggie fan aswell. New hip hop and rap to me sucks but I do like immortal technique, rhyme assylum and diabolic. U hard any of these? Like any? And general thought on the genre now a days?

Anyone else want to comment please do.

Red Rout {Ed001's Note - I am not really a fan of the way rap has gone. Songs used to have meaning, even if it was just back in the beginning it was to get the party going. These days it is just a lot of idiots talking about how much money they make and how much arse they get. But then, music in general has dumbed down, and you have to search harder for something of interest. I have heard a few songs by Immortal Technique and a few other underground artists, there used to be a very good podcast for underground rap which played stuff like that. It also had KRS-1 on there a lot, and I am a huge fan of his.}

(1)
(0)

Good to see some other old school rap lovers on here! If you enjoy listening to the likes of immortal technique I'd recommend giving some UK artists a listen.. Akala and Lowkey are both great. Lowkeys new album is a definite, very clever guy. Also can't beat a bit of Nas, his newest album life is good doesn't compare to the likes of illmatic, but I don't think anything ever will. It's still good though! Gotta agree with you though Ed, rap (as I don't think we can call it hip hop anymore) is so dumbed down it's depressing. But what can you do, if artists want to make money I suppose they have to sell commercials albums to the masses.

Curtiss

ed whats your favourite genre and if you like rap who's your favourite rapper. {Ed001's Note - I would have to say it is rap as my favourite, old school in particular, not Tupac sort of era, but proper old school. Early Public Enemy and NWA with Ice Cube, the Straight Out Of Compton album was truly epic.}
